Cool Article of the Week – 11/11 – 11/17

These cool article(s) of the week are dedicated to all of you wonderful college people out there, living in the dorm rooms. This is also dedicated to the budget-friendly person who wants some really awesome, cheap and easy food ideas.

Ah, college.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Living in the dorms (er, residence halls, as one of my closest friends always corrects me on! She was an R.A. ), with those communal kitchens with the oven/stove. I remember having big communal group dinners with my friends at times, in our residence halls, sitting around the couches and having a great time.

You had to be strategic, because you don’t have a TON of space in those kitchens, but you had to have yummy food too! (Hence, as well as those group dinners in the dorms, there were tons of late night orders as well to various pizza places, ah, the days).

So as Thanksgiving is on its way, one article of the week speaks 11 Easy Recipes for Friendsgiving In Your College Dorm (thank you, BuzzFeed Food!).

I appreciate that they advise to make turkey cutlets. I’m actually a huge fan of those and when I was home living with my parents, that was one of our meals we’d make, breaded turkey cutlets with gravy and noodles. Delicious! And VERY easy to make. I approve!

The one on the list I probably would not make is #8 (Roasted Potatoes, Carrots, Parsnips and Brussel Sprouts). As much as I love those vegetables, I think mashed potatoes, cornbread, biscuits, etc. are beautiful items for a Friendsgiving menu. Those personally don’t yell out “college comfort food” to me, but I see how throwing roasted veggies in the oven would indeed impress people.

What would you make on the list? Let me know, comment below! šŸ™‚

Speaking of college foods, this VIDEO is technically article #2 that I know ALL of you will love, again, from BuzzFeed Food.

Simple College Snack Hacks You Should Know.

Oh man.

First of all, love the use of Kroger products throughout this video (love you, Kroger!).

Second, these ideas are GENIUS.

If you ever wondered what to do with your cereal, ramen noodles, or kettle corn to spruce it up a bit, you will definitely be salivating over these easy ideas.

((And for the record, Nutella DOES make everything better.))

Cool Article of the Week: 11/3-11/10

This cool article of the week comes from Buzz Feed Food. It came up on my Twitter feed, and had to click it.

Ah, Johnny Depp.

The wondrous, dashingly handsome actor from all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

“Where’s the rum gone,” as Capt. Jack Sparrow says. My favorite quote from those movies.

I saw the following picture and was stunned. I’ve watched many-a-cake-decorating show, such as Cake Boss or Ace of Cakes , but this, well I’ve never seen anything quite like it:

Look at the picture above. Do you know which one is the “real” Johnny? For a second, you think you’re seeing doubles. But actually, the one on the right is a cake.

Yes, a CAKE, full length, Captain Jack Sparrow!

How cool is that?

It’s 5’5″, and what I especially loved is the baker’s story, that I don’t want to give away.

Let me know what you think!

Enjoy! And read on.

Cool Articles 10/9-10/22

1) Inspired Desserts from the New York Wine and Food Festival Godiva Truffle Showdown, Serious Eats:Ā There was a Godiva Truffle Showdown at this year’s New York Food & Wine Festival, and get ready to feast your eyes on a slideshow of mouth-watering, decadent chocolate treats, because you are in for one tasty ride!

2) 18 Reasons Pizza is Your Best Friend, BuzzFeed Food: This is a super fun read. Especially with the pictures. It tells the tale of why pizza is, and will always be with you for the long haul. From Lunchables, to Bagel Bites, to late night munchies. Yum.

3) 23 Most Glorious Balls of Cheese, BuzzFeed Food:Ā Who doesn’t love cheese? And who doesn’t love a big ball of cheese? But honestly, I would not eat the one that looks like a rat (would you? Do tell below!)

4) 13 Things You Didn’t Know about Dunkin Donuts, The Daily Meal: Time to make the donuts! The Daily Meal puts out a fun list of things you (may) not have known about the coffee/donut shop. Something I didn’t know:

There are Dunkin’ Donuts coffee experts thatĀ taste an average of 200 cups of coffee a day to ensure that they’re delivering the best possible coffee to consumers.”
